Ilaria Garofolo

Professor, Director of Dept. Eng. Arch., University of Trieste

Ilaria Garofolo is currently Professor of Building Technology at the University of Trieste, and Director of the Department of Engineering and Architecture. Former Researcher and Associated Professor at the University of Trento, Faculty of Engineering (1990-2001), she started as researcher in the field of wooden buildings under individual programs funded by grants (1988-University of Trento 1989 - Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1990 - Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage, 1997 - European Program Leonardo da Vinci AT & Q).  Her research interests include sustainability of the building process and transformation of habitats, investigated in its systemic complexity and in relation to environmental, economic, cultural issues; organizational patterns for the construction projects management, with reference to the evaluation and monitoring of processes and resources. Latest researches deal with inclusive and universal design with particular reference to the issue of accessibility of public spaces and services and to Cultural Heritage. Her research has been funded by EU Framework Programs,   EU territorial cooperation program Interreg IIIA and B, and by public bodies (Region Friuli Venezia Gulia, Province of Trieste and Municipality of Trieste).
