Evangelia Despoina Giouri

Architect Engineer, Giouris Civil Engineering Consultants

Evangelia-Despoina Giouri's specialization field concerns Architecture and Building Technology focused on parametric climate design. She holds a Master (Meng) degree in Architectural Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and a Master (MSc) degree in Building Technology from the faculty of Architecture in Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Her MSc thesis in the track of Building Technology at TU Delft (2017) was the “Zero energy potential of a high-rise office building in a Mediterranean climate” where she applied multi-objective optimization to understand the impact of design decisions towards zero-energy high-rise buildings. From 2012 she is a member of the technical chamber of Greece and has worked as an architect in Greece designing residential and commercial buildings and landscape projects. Since 2014 she has worked as a certified energy inspector for buildings by the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy, issuing energy certificates for existing and new buildings.

Using multi-objective optimization to understand the impact of design decisions towards zero-energy high-rise buildings

This research aimed to create a new integrated decision-making tool in designing ZEBs with the use of multi objective optimization of building design and construction parameters for minimizing energy use and maximizing adaptive thermal comfort. This proposed strategy aims to offer an alternative to the current stepped strategies such as the Trias Energetica and the New Stepped Strategy that will lead to more optimized, energy efficient and thermally comfortable buildings. By using this new strategy, the research has shown which are the most influential parameters that should be improved in order to design zero-energy high-rise office buildings in the hot-dry climate of Athens, Greece.
